East Penn Receives Grant from the DOE

East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc. received a grant from the Federal Government Department of Energy for the exploration of advanced lead-acid batteries in renewable energy applications. The appropriation from the Federal Government stems from a DOE initiative to ensure more dependable power comes from domestic sources.

The grant, totaling $351,104, was presented by Congressman Holden and Congressman Dent to East Penn on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.

“There are many exciting opportunities available with advanced lead-acid battery power, especially for renewable energy such as wind and solar powered applications, stated Kevin Smith, Technical Director. “These funds will help support new types of equipment and research for the manufacture, development, and application of advanced lead-acid battery technology.”
